I
have been practicing massage therapy since 2004. I went to
the Cortiva Somerset
School of Massage Therapy where I received an extensive education in
Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and massage techniques including
Swedish, Myofascial Release, Reflexology, Pre-natal, and Sports
Massage. I started off my career in the field working in the spa
setting and have since graduated to work here at the Center, where I
can focus my efforts helping people with specific pain and structural
issues, seeing patients for a single massage or, with deeper or more
chronic issues, for a series. I focus on finding the source of discomfort and work through it with
a comfortable pressure and open communication to bring balance back
into the body. I also like to educate my patients about what is
happening in and how they can help eliminate symptoms and prevent them
from reoccurring through massage therapy, stretching, or relaxation
techniques.
I began
my career in 2004 when I received my certification from the Florida
School of Massage Therapy in
Gainesville, one of the nation's oldest and most esteemed schools. While
there I fell in love
with Swedish,
Connective
Tissue,
Neuro-Muscular, Sports, and Pre-natal Massage, as well as Polarity
Therapy and Reflexology. I like to blend
various relaxation and deep tissue techniques in order to evaluate and
address my patient's needs. I often encourage my
patients to continue on their paths to wellness by suggesting
continuing sessions as well as self-care to help them meet their goals. I believe that
movement
is an important part of a healthy lifestyle so I receive
regular
massages and I love to dance.
In the early 1970's I met John
Upledger, a major contributor to the field of cranio-sacral osteopathy.
He was very instrumental in helping me get my career in osteopathy
started. Basically, I got interested in medicine because of the value I
saw in structural medical treatments. I
worked as a general practitioner for over 20 years, always devoting
clinical time to treating my patients with Osteopathic Manual Medicine
(OMM). I retired a few years ago and decided to continue to
work on a part time basis so that I could return to my roots
in OMM and focus on what originally got me into the field. I graduated from
Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic
Medicine, in 1987 and I am Board Certified in Family Medicine. I
have always been impressed
with the potential for OMM to improve a person's quality of life, and
I decided to make this my current professional focus.
